A Couples Photoshoot at the Beach in Den Haag
I always tell people that you don't need a special reason to book a photoshoot.
You don't have to be engaged, celebrating an anniversary, or reaching a big milestone. Sometimes it’s simply about wanting to remember this season of your life together.
That’s exactly what this session was.
This couple is originally from South Africa but now calls the Netherlands home. Like many people who move countries, they’re building a new life here while still carrying pieces of where they came from.
We met at the beach in Den Haag and spent the afternoon together. We walked along the shoreline, chatted, enjoyed the sea air, and took our time. There was no strict plan for the session — we simply let the evening unfold.
And that is often when the best moments happen.
People sometimes ask me what they’re supposed to do during a photoshoot. The honest answer is: just be yourselves.
You don’t need to know how to pose, and you don’t need to perform for the camera. I’ll give some gentle guidance when needed, but most of the time I’m simply there to observe and photograph the little moments that naturally happen between you.
The conversations. The laughter. The way you look at each other when you forget the camera is there.
Some of my favourite photographs from this session were the moments in between. The quiet moments walking together, the little interactions that happened naturally, and the feeling of simply spending time together by the sea.
I love photographing couples at the beach because it gives everyone space to relax. There’s no pressure to do anything complicated. You can walk, talk, sit in the sand, watch the waves, and enjoy being together.
As South Africans living in the Netherlands ourselves, we also had plenty to talk about. The process of making a new home here, the things we miss about South Africa, and the little moments that make life in the Netherlands special.
By the end of the session, many couples tell me it didn’t really feel like a photoshoot. It felt more like they spent an afternoon together, and I happened to be there with my camera.
And honestly, that’s exactly what I hope for.
